things i’ve learned while being pregnant

EAT WHEN YOU ARE HUNGRY

my pyramid menu planner – this website allows you to type in what you’ve eaten that day and how much more (or less) you need to eat to fulfill your daily intake needs. very helpful

don’t wait 15 mins, eat right away. it is harder to consume the nutrition you need than you think, so don’t delay! if you put it off you’ll find yourself missing servings by the end of the day.

YOUR BODY WILL NOT BE YOURS FOR AS LONG AS YOU THINK IT WILL

i found this beautiful image on stuntkid’s livejournal here

i counted on feeling like myself and feeling the same way about my body for most of my pregnancy, just with an expanding stomach. boy was i wrong. between the skin problems that can appear out of no where, to the bloating, gas, nausea, to the leaking nipples and general feeling of “sharing” your body, you really start to feel your body is not yours quite fast.

ENJOY YOUR PRE-PREGNANCY BODY AS LONG AS YOU CAN

(photo from our friend’s wedding. me on far left. that is my “pre-pregnancy dress” the one i knew i would dream of fitting in again while pregnancy/after giving birth)

within a few months (even as short as a few weeks), you will be missing your favourite pair of jeans that no longer fit, and wondering where the you, you knew before had gone. you will regret all negative thoughts about yourself once you start to balloon and you find you’ve got 3 outfits to rotate between, and you start doubting how much you even like those. so if you can, enjoy your pre-pregnancy body as long as you can. you never know if you’ll see it again.

BE PREPARED TO APOLOGIZE… A LOT

found these cards on etsy here

between the hormones and slowly losing the ability to do things like bend over or lie flat on your back, you tend to be a little grumpier and a little more snappy. i have never suffered from bad pms or terrible mood swings so to suddenly find myself storming out of the room over a tiny comment taken the wrong way, or crying because my i hate my hair and the mister tells me he loves it, i should probably stoke up on some apology cards. in fact, i should probably just sign one and hand it to him every morning. if you’re not one for apologizing, i suggest practising.

more to come soon.
